Our People Our Community
Brandon Dorrington 35, after becoming one of the first high school graduates of the 21st century. I decided to continue to make history. I enlisted into the U.S. Army with the following core values in mind; loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, & personal courage. The 9/11 terrorist attack on the U.S. allowed me to fully exercise my commitment. My indoctrination as a Ranger empowered me to lead by example; In part of the Ranger’s Creed “Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster & fight harder than any other soldier.” By decree, I was honored to display my core values in battle and direct combat in theatres of war such as Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan and Operation Iraq Freedom. Honorably discharged in 2006, I than redirected my focus, passion, & dedication from foreign affairs to domestic revitalization by supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency in humanitarian efforts to rebuild the city of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. My connection to the city began, I used the earned benefit of the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill to further my education; I enrolled into Dillard University and graduated with a B.A. in History. At the rise of my spiritual awakening, I was led to pursue a higher degree of education and civic engagement. I began my path to political involvement in multiple capacities such as; contributing to the work of local non-profit organizations, the study of economics and how it affects the overall community, engaging in youth development by way of education & recreational sports, impacting on the criminal justice reform; this led to Earning an M.A. in criminology from Southern University at New Orleans. Finally, my interest in neighborhood growth & sustainability, community relations, and local ward collaboration and development efforts has evolved into community leadership, representation, and a sense of ownership. Therefore, my quest as the next elected Mayor of the City of New Orleans is a manifestation of all therein.
